Raymond D. Cotton, Vice President of Higher Education for ML Strategies, LLC and a Member of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., will present at the 2015 Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Presidents Institute.  This year’s meeting will take place January 4-7 in San Diego, California.

Mr. Cotton’s presentation, which he will deliver on January 5th, is entitled “The President’s Second Contract: What to Maintain and What to Change.”  The session, which is open only to currently serving college presidents, will discuss negotiating a second (or third) presidential contract.  The re-negotiation process presents an opportunity to reassess the prior or current agreement. Topics to be addressed will include base salary, deferred compensation, bonuses, outside income, presidential evaluations, sabbaticals, termination clauses, and post-presidency employment opportunities.

The Presidents Institute is CIC's premier event, bringing presidents of independent colleges and universities together for networking, problem-solving, and sharing of ideas among colleagues leading similar institutions. In recent years, CIC's Presidents Institute has become the largest annual meeting of college and university presidents, regularly attracting more than 330 higher education chief executives. The Institute includes a program for new presidents and presidential spouses.

Mr. Cotton has represented more than 350 college and university presidents and boards of trustees.  He is a frequent speaker on the programs of higher education associations. He is also a regular contributor to the Chronicle of Higher Education.  He was listed in the 2013 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business for Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation in Washington, DC.  Mr. Cotton was also named to the 2014 list of Best Lawyers in America for Education Law.
